Happily Ever After always held a different meaning for those involved in the story. Of course where that chapter of their lives ended, another one began...lives that readers were not privy to. The boring, hum drums of marriage and children and princes and princesses growing old and becoming Kings and Queens. Life went on after the glass slipper, the spinning wheel, and the magic mirror.. And life is still going on.
Like the akashic records, these lives once they found there close were born again. Tales that were written, fantastical stories and the characters that contained them reincarnated after death, over and over again. Forever being played out in a new world, under a new guise with a new setting. As long as people read their stories, these tales survived to see another war, another marriage, another Happily Ever After.
The Tales seemed to be able to band together, seeking one another out and clinging close. For who knew what allies one could build up for lives to follow, who were allies in lives past? There was recognition, there was intimacy, and there was always a distinctive sense of community. This community remained tied together by two things, the charity and good faith of one another and the ten mirrors(a tale within tales, an urban legend, nobody really knows for sure). They have united in small hidden niches.
Now there is something new bringing this strange community of outcasts and wanderers together.
"Technology... is a queer thing. It brings you great gifts with one hand, and it stabs you in the back with the other."
With the new advent of the internet, there came brilliant new ways of communicating across the globe, a dawn of organization. This great and wonderful invention came with the increased unification of Tales, and the realization of a strange trend that was growing at a frighteningly fast pace.
"Has anyone seen Scherezade, I've not run into her in two life times.."
"Where is my sister, ever since that Lizzie Borden incident she hasn't come back."
"Has anyone seen the Steadfast Tin Soldier? I'd married her last lifetime..."
Tales are dying, because they are slowly fading from the minds of the growing generation that is more enrapt with their technology rather than classic literature. And while classics such as Cinderella and Aladdin are still going strong, and modern tales those still fresh in memory from the world of Lewis Carroll and Frank L. Baum are making themselves known in frighteningly growing numbers...those who have lost notoriety find themselves fading, growing sick and frail and faced with the potential oblivion. They are now posed with the fight to keep tales going strong.
